Project Brief

DSD Companies, a shipping and logistics firm located near the Port of Long Beach, sought a solution to streamline the dissemination of information concerning their customers’ trucking and shipping container deliveries, aiming to reduce the volume of customer service inquiries received at each location.

To address this need, I took on the role of both designer and developer, creating a tailored content management system utilizing Bootstrap 3 and Laravel 5.2 frameworks. This system provides clients and freight brokers with real-time access to updated information on incoming trucking and CFS deliveries, ensuring a seamless user experience for all stakeholders.

Managing every aspect of the project challenged me to expand my skill set and adapt to various responsibilities, ultimately allowing me to deliver an effective content management solution tailored to DSD’s specific needs

Phase II

Laravel 5.2 Content Management System

The CMS serves various purposes, catering primarily to website administrators and freight brokers. Within the DSD Companies admin panel, website administrators possess the capability to seamlessly add new deliveries, as well as edit or delete existing database records. On the website’s front-end, freight brokers can utilize the platform’s custom search function to access and review open deliveries effortlessly.

Back-end

Initiating the addition of a new trucking delivery commences from the Trucking index page. Users kickstart the process by inputting the MAWB number, serving as the distinct identifier for each delivery. Should the unique ID not be found in the database, the website administrator is directed to a multi-page form, enabling them to input the delivery specifics. Stringent form validation guarantees that all requisite information is provided by the website administrator.

Multi-Step Form

The 4-part form facilitates comprehensive input of delivery details, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Divided into sections, it systematically collects essential information such as sender details, recipient information, shipment specifics, and delivery preferences. Each segment serves a distinct purpose, guiding the website administrator through the process with clarity and efficiency.

File Uploads​

Multiple file upload sections are available within the admin panel's Account and Trucking sections. Through seamless integration with Dropzone, admin users can effortlessly upload numerous PDFs and photos simply by dragging and dropping them directly into the Dropzone window. These streamlined file upload features enhance efficiency and organization in managing document and image assets within the system.

Trash & Restore Records

Leveraging Laravel’s Soft Delete functionality, records undergo temporary deletion, relocating them to the Trash section for retention until either permanently deleted or restored. This feature provides a safeguard against accidental data loss, offering flexibility in data management and recovery processes.

Revisions​

The Revisionable Trait meticulously monitors every modification made within the CMS, allowing users to access a detailed history log via the History page. This log includes pertinent information such as the user's name, old and new values, along with timestamps, ensuring transparency and accountability in tracking changes over time. This feature provides valuable insights into the evolution of data within the system.

Front-end Search

Freight brokers can seamlessly access freight updates and delivery details directly from the website’s front-end by inputting the MAWB number into the designated search input box. This user-friendly feature enhances efficiency and expedites the retrieval of crucial information. Additionally, the search functionality is designed to swiftly retrieve relevant data, streamlining the broker’s workflow and providing timely updates on shipments and deliveries.
